In the early hours of Thursday, no fewer than ten passengers and 30 cows were reportedly killed when a trailer lost control and crashed at Gora village in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State.
On Thursday, a trailer, heavily loaded with cows and passengers, was said to be heading to Warri, Delta State, when it lost control at a sharp bend in Gora and somersaulted a little after 12:00 am.
It was gathered that at least,10 passengers and 30 cows died while scores of others were injured in the accident.
A member of the community where the accident occurred, revealed that the bulk of the victims involved in the crash was from Kaita LGA of Katsina State and their families have been notified of the development.
According to him, “The injured victims in the accident are currently being treated at the Malumfashi General Hospital.”
While confirming the report, the Public Relations Officer of Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Abubakar Usman, said;
“It was a lone crash that occurred around 00:10 hours on Thursday at Gora Ward of Malumfashi Local Government Area, involving a trailer with registration number KTN 495 XA, which was overladen with animals and passengers, heading to southern Nigeria but lost control when it got to a sharp bend and somersaulted. We are yet to confirm the number of people that died there, but according to eyewitnesses and our men on rescue, 30 cows were killed”.
He, however, said the number of those who died in the accident was yet to be confirmed but will revert as soon as he has the details.
