Shannon Sharpe, a media personality and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is being sued for allegedly causing intentional emotional distress and committing sexual assault and violence.
The lawsuit, which USA TODAY Sports received, was filed in Clark County, Nevada, on Sunday. Under the pseudonym “Jane Doe,” the plaintiff claimed that she and Sharpe had been together for almost two years, starting out as a “rocky consensual relationship.”
Sharpe, who is currently 56 years old, is accused in the lawsuit of sexually assaulting the lady twice, in October 2024 and January 2025. The woman claims she met Sharpe at a Los Angeles gym in 2023 when she was 19 and is requesting $50 million in damages.
The lawsuit is “a blatant and cynical attempt to shake down Mr. Sharpe for millions of dollars,” according to a statement issued Monday by Sharpe’s lawyer Lanny J. Davis. It will fail because it is full of falsehoods, misrepresentations, and distortions.
During their connection, Sharpe allegedly turned aggressive, threatened to murder her once, and videotaped their sex without getting her permission, according to the lady.
When the plaintiff pointed out Sharpe’s infidelity in their relationship or criticized him for his unnecessary behavior, he became enraged, according to the lawsuit. “What started out as intimidation, control, and manipulation has evolved into something far more evil and lethal. Sharpe even managed to enter Doe’s apartment building without her consent.
Sharpe made it apparent that Doe’s desires were irrelevant and that he would obtain what he desired at the appropriate time. The lawsuit claims that Shannon Sharpe ignored the plaintiff’s efforts to stop and sexually attacked her brutally twice in Las Vegas in October 2024.Attorneys Tony Buzbee and Micah Nash are Jane Doe’s legal representatives. Following over two dozen massage therapists’ accusations of sexual misconduct against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, Buzbee was a member of the legal team that secured settlements against Watson.
Davis’ statement contained a number of purported explicit texts that Doe sent to Sharpe to “set the record straight.”
Davis stated in the statement, “Mr. Sharpe vehemently rejects any accusations of coercion or misconduct, particularly the heinous fabrication of ‘rape.’ He will not comply with what he perceives to be a heinous attempt at blackmail.” “He is ready to fiercely defend the truth against these untrue allegations in court. He awaits vindication via due process and a fact-based and legally-based ruling.
Sharpe, a tight end who has won three Super Bowls, has a popular podcast called “Club Shay Shay,” and frequently appears on ESPN’s original Take. According to a story from last week, Sharpe is considering a new podcast agreement worth more than $100 million.
