The governorship election in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State, has been postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to alleged irregularities identified in most communities in the council area.
Ahmadu Umar, the officer in charge, made the news at collation on Sunday.
According to him, the LGA had 148,407 registered voters, but due to the efforts of some politicians who attempted to rig the poll, there was no election in the council area on Saturday.
The poll has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 13, 2021, after an INEC official ordered troublemakers to stay away from all election places in the Ihiala Council region.
While Prof Chukwuma Soludo enjoys a 45,000-vote lead over his nearest rival, Valentine Ozigo, the Ihiala local government alone has over 148,000 registered voters.
APGA received 99,160 votes, PDP 49,475 votes, APC 40,270 votes, and YPP 20,292 votes.
Mr. C Don Adinuba, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, claimed that a local politician and his group attempted to rig the election.
