According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress is now holding local government primaries in Lagos State, and four local council areas have produced chairmanship candidates.
The candidates for Iba LCDA were Mr. Isa Jubril, Ijede LCDA were Mrs. Motunrayo Gbadebo, Lekki LCDA was Mr. Rasaq Kasali, and Otto Awori LCDA was Mr. Azeez Kareem.
According to report, all of the nominees were approved by the representatives of each council area after emerging through consensus.
As of the time this article was filed, the Ikeja party secretariat was still holding voting to select candidates for other council regions.
Speaking to delegates prior to the vote, the state’s deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, asked them to maintain order and calm because the entire nation was watching.
“We take this exercise very seriously,” Hazmat stated. From Abuja, our father and leader, our president, keeps an eye on us.
“This is his state, and you are aware that he takes the grassroots populace very seriously. We must all exercise patience as a result.
“LASIEC is present to watch the procedure. The process is peaceful. Let’s move swiftly and calmly, and let’s go. Let us exercise patience and composure. Let’s do it well.
“We should not give in to the opposition or outside forces because the APC is the only party still in power in Lagos and the PDP’s umbrella is ripped.”
In his earlier explanation of the voting procedures, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, the chairman of the Lagos APC Electoral Committee, stated that representatives of local governments with consensus candidates will have the opportunity to confirm their nominees in front of representatives of councils with rival candidates.
Ogala noted that the accreditation was completed satisfactorily and that several local delegates had decided to submit their consensus nominees.
He stated just prior to the four consensus candidates emerging that “some Local Governments seem to have done their process at home, so we will take them first so that they affirm and depart.”
In order to declutter the site, Ogala encouraged delegates to depart after voting, stating that candidates who wished to withdraw were free to do so.
