The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), acting on behalf of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has mandated the immediate closure of the Myra Event Center in Abuja due to noise pollution.
The decision was announced Thursday in Abuja by AMMC Coordinator Mr. Felix Obuah.
According to Obuah, the center, which is situated at Plot 135 Mustapha Bello Street in Guzape District, is causing environmental pollution by making noise, especially at night, and committing other violations.
According to him, the center would stay closed till further notice.
“The action was part of ongoing efforts to address noise pollution and other environmental violations throughout the nation’s capital city,” the coordinator added.
He stressed the necessity to operate within the parameters of environmental rules that govern their operations and cautioned event centers against noise pollution.
As to his statement, any event venue that contributes to noise pollution would be shut down right away.
In order to conserve the environment for the benefit of the public, Obuah emphasized the necessity for group action and urged people of the Federal Capital Territory to report environmental infractions through AMMC proper channels.
