Out of the eighteen local government areas that comprised the Edo State gubernatorial election in September 2024, seventeen have been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC. This was revealed at the current collation center in Benin City by the state returning officer for the Edo 2024 governorship election, Prof. Faruk Adamu of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 195,954 votes overall out of the 16 local governments that have been declared thus far, while the All Progressive Congress (APC) received 244,549 votes. The results of two local governments are still anticipated, according to the INEC state returning officer, and the collation center has been placed on hold with plans to resume by 5:00 p.m. today. Nonetheless, Ikpoba Okha and Oredo local governments are the two that have not yet been revealed. The results that have been released thus far have been criticized by other parties, most notably the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for being a distorted representation of the actual results of the polls. The APC said that the election was the most free in the state to date and that it represented the views of the people through its state chairman, Jarret Tenebe, who disagreed with the PDP position.
