Jennifer Lopez: It’s Taken Me Thirty Years To Realize That I Don’t Need Anyone.

In a recent interview with Interview Magazine, the singer-actress talked candidly about her divorce and her path to inner peace and self-acceptance.

“I think we all know you have to love yourself before you can let someone else love you,” inquired interviewer Glazer. Although we are aware of it, do we really put it into practice? Do you think you’re practicing it right now?”

In response, Lopez said, “That scares or confuses me too because it makes me think that you can’t love me if I’m flawed. To be loved, I must be flawless. That is untrue! You may mend those pieces of yourself with the support of someone who genuinely loves you. What I’ve discovered about love is that it is a stable entity.”

She went on, “Because you have your boundaries and I have mine, you make me feel protected and, even in the moments when I fall short of the glory, you understand me and support my efforts to improve. I then say, “Here’s where I fall short for you, and here’s where you fall short for me.” We therefore improve on such topics together.”

“There’s no new bar because I’m not looking for anybody,” Lopez startled her interviewer when questioned about her new expectations for potential partners. How are things there? She continued by saying that, as a single woman, this was the first time she had ever admitted it to herself.

“Oh my gosh! How does that appear to you? Glazer queried.

In between giggles, the vocalist answered, “You know what? Those of us who are romantics, who enjoy being in relationships, and who hope to spend our golden years with someone, often believe that having that will make us whole and happy. You also don’t. It was done in thirty years.”
