(JUST IN) Bobrisky: VDM, Attorney Shows Up For Reps Investigation.

VeryDarkMan, a social media influencer, and his attorney, Deji Adeyanju, are presently at the National Assembly Complex for the joint committee looking into claims of corruption against the Nigerian Correctional Services and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Recall that in April, the EFCC and NCS were accused by the controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, of seeking bribes in order to allow him to spend his sentence in the VIP area of the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos. Okuneye was found guilty and sentenced to prison for naira abuse.

Trouble began after Bobrisky was heard on a voice note shared by the VeryDarkMan claiming that his godfather, working with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, had set up for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment following his conviction and sentencing for abusing naira notes in April.

The document also stated that another senior officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections and In-Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja, had been suspended by the board for allegedly accepting money on behalf of an inmate.

But according to Ahmed, the reason for their suspension was so that the accusations against them could be properly investigated, “while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.”

On Thursday, September 26, the House of Representatives decided to look into the bribery claims made by the VeryDarkMan against the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The resolution was passed by the House on Thursday after a motion of urgent public interest was adopted. The motion was sponsored by Patrick Umoh, a member representing the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking to his peers, Umoh voiced his worries about the widely shared article by VeryDarkMan criticizing the NCS and the EFCC.

He stated, “The article claims that after receiving the sum of N15,000,000, the EFCC withdrew money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

According to the publication, Idris Okuneye was not housed within the Nigeria Correctional Service after being found guilty by the court of abusing and defacing naira. Instead, he was placed outside the service’s boundaries.

“We are concerned about the incriminating claims made against Nigerian law enforcement agencies, the NCS and the EFCC, which were founded by these sacred chambers to combat corruption and house criminal defendants for penitentiary purposes, respectively.”

He went on to say that it would be inappropriate to ignore the publication’s unfavorable picture of Nigeria as a corrupt country.

The resolution was adopted, and when the plenary session was adjourned, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas forwarded it to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.
