Kano police arrested 63 suspected thugs and drug dealers.

In a cleaning operation across Kano metropolis’ eight Local Government Areas (LGAs), the police command in Kano State detained 63 suspected thugs and drug traffickers.

DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the state police spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Thursday in Kano.

He stated the suspects included 42 alleged renowned thugs (Yan Daba) and 21 drug traffickers, who were apprehended between May 30 and June 1.

The operation, he added, was part of an endeavor to rid the state of all sorts of criminality, particularly thuggery and drug misuse.

During the operation, Haruna stated a big quantity of guns, illegal narcotics (Tramadol) worth N29.9 million, and exol tablets worth N3.2 million were recovered.

Meanwhile, stakeholders in the state’s community policing system have committed to work with the police to make the state safer.

They made the vow in a meeting with the chiefs of security agencies and the hunters’ association that took place across the state’s 11 area commands.

The meeting was attended by Yoruba and Igbo dignitaries, political party leaders, and chairmen of the eight metropolitan LGAs.

Mr Sama’ila Dikko, the state Commissioner of Police, thanked the stakeholders for their prayers, support, encouragement, and collaboration.

“Currently with a very low crime rate, serene and peaceful atmosphere in the state, the police will continue to remain steadfast and resolute in safeguarding lives and property,’’ He said.
