Kim Kardashian told a Paris court on Tuesday that she “absolutely thought” her attackers would murder her while she testified in the trial of the burglars who are accused of tying her up and robbing her at gunpoint almost nine years ago.
During Paris Fashion Week in 2016, Kardashian remembered begging the armed guys who had burst into her hotel room while she was sleeping, “I have babies, I have to make it home, I have babies.”
For the first time since the theft, the millionaire reality TV star faced her alleged assailants and described how she was robbed of almost $10 million in cash and jewelry, including a $4 million engagement ring that was never found. The ring was given to her by her ex-husband Kanye West.
Throughout her more than two-hour testimony, Kardashian remained largely composed, but occasionally broke down in tears as she explained how the break-in had completely impacted her life and the way she plans her security.
The defendants are accused with armed robbery, kidnapping, and conspiracy. They are nine males and one woman, ages 35 to 78. Two of them have entered guilty pleas to some of the accusations, while eight of them deny any involvement.
In what appeared to be a reference to the jewelry that were taken from her on the night of the break-in, Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, came at court in the French capital wearing a necklace adorned with diamonds.
Kardashian described being awakened by the attackers on the evening of October 2016, and first being unaware of the demands made by the intruders.
Kardashian claimed that at the time, “there were a lot of terrorist attacks happening in the world.” “I assumed that was the cause.” The backlog of significant cases in France, including those pertaining to the 2015 Paris terror attacks, is one of the reasons the trial has taken so long to begin.
Kardashian claimed that one of the robbers placed a gun against her back and tied her hands together with a zip tie after the men had rummaged through her jewelry box and taken the engagement ring from the side of her bed. She remembered being “hysterical,” pleading with the bandits to spare her life.
Kardashian claimed she thought the men would rape her after being woken up in nothing but a bathrobe. “Under the robe, I was nude. I was certain he was going to rape me because everything was exposed. She added, “I prayed and prepared for it to happen, but he taped and closed my legs.”
Following that, Kardashian expressed her dread of being slain, saying that her sister Kourtney and her friend Simone Harouche, who was sleeping in a downstairs adjoining room, would have to discover her dead.
“I knew they would notice that.” Kardashian claimed, “They would see me on the bed, shot dead on the bed, and they would remember that for the rest of their lives.”
Harouche, a crucial witness in the trial who has known Kardashian since they were twelve, gave testimony earlier Tuesday. She claimed that the sound of the crime woke her up because she had been hired to style the Kardashians during fashion week in Paris.
Harouche texted Pascal Duvier, Kourtney and Kardashian’s security, and locked herself in the bathroom out of fear that the intruders might try to break into her room again.
Last week, Duvier testified that upon arriving at the hotel, he discovered Kardashian “crying hysterically.”
Harouche explained how Kardashian, who had obviously “suffered major trauma,” was agitated and afraid that the men may return soon after the robbers had left.
She jumped down the steps, and I heard it. “She had tape around her feet when she entered my room,” Harouche remarked. She simply screamed and insisted that we leave the area. If they return, what should we do? We may have to leap out of the window.
According to Harouche, the night “changed her life forever.” I have witnessed her during the darkest moments of her life, including bereavement and divorce. She has never looked like this to me.
Following the encounter, Harouche declared that she no longer wished to take on the danger of collaborating with famous people. She went on to say, “I switched careers and now I work in interior design.”
As Kardashian’s testimony came to a close, the presiding judge read her a letter from the group’s alleged ringleader, Aomar Aït Khedache, in which he expressed regret for the anguish he had caused. Khedache, 68, is partially deaf and unable to talk, despite being in the courtroom, his attorney told newsline prior to Tuesday’s hearing.
He wrote, “As a human being, I want to come to you and say how much I regret my act.”
Kardashian, who was clearly touched, stated that although she “forgives” him, “it doesn’t change the emotion and the feelings and the trauma.”
A decision is anticipated on May 23, and the trial is set to continue until May 22.
