Man arrested for allegedly beating his 22-year-old lover to death in Anambra

Anambra police have detained a man in his early 30s for reportedly killing Chidimma Christopher, his 22-year-old lover.

The suspect, named as Ikenna Asiegbu of the Mgbakwu community in Anambra State’s Awka North Local Government Area, allegedly committed the crime on Saturday, February 4 in Urutolu village in Mgbakwu.

According to the reports, despite the intervention of their neighbors, he allegedly assaulted the deceased. Chidinma also gave birth to a kid six months ago.

It was gathered that member of the village came on Asiegbu after the suspect’s lover fell and was transported to the hospital, where she was proven dead.

They reportedly tried to set him ablaze before some vigilantes intervened, and took him to their office before contacting the police.

Some of the community youths who insisted that Asiegbu should be released to them, said there’s an agreement in the community that anyone who has killed should be killed as well.

Anambra police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident on Sunday February 5, and further disclosed that the suspect was in police custody.

“On Saturday, we received information that the suspect beat and murdered the victim in his house at Mgbakwu. The victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. Further development shall be communicated please.” Ikenga said.
