Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin Moved To Second Detention Facility On Same Day Due To COVID-19 Concerns, Awaits Trial

Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer who is now charged with murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, has been moved to a second detention facility in the same day, the Minneapolis cop has been moved to one of the most secure prisons in the US, that accepts most hated and high-risk inmates.

Chauvin had previously been held at the Ramsey County Jail after being taken into custody in Minnesota. On Sunday afternoon, he was transferred to the Hennepin County Jail. Just hours later, he was moved to a department of corrections facility in Oak Park Heights.

During a press conference Sunday night, Commissioner of Corrections Paul Schnell said that Chauvin has been moved partially due to COVID-19 concerns, especially considering the number of protesters who had already been arrested on Sunday.

Three other officers were fired in connection to Floyd’s death, but they are yet to be arrested or charged, Chauvin’s wife, Kellie Chauvin has also filed for a divorce to end their marriage after his arrest.
