Nigerian Oil Workers suspends strike

Nigerian Oil workers, under the aegis of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Associate of Nigeria, suspended the three-day planned warning about strike allowing the Federal Government of Nigeria to address all the issues raised by the workers.

They had threaten to go on a warning strike from, June 24 to June 26, 2020, in protest against forceful enrolment or integrated payroll and Personnel Information System instigated by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The workers had written to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Minister of Labour and Employment, protesting the decision of the Federal Government to stop the payment of salaries of oil workers in government parastatals. They have also been meeting with the Management for a very long time over the very same matter. They had rejected the system including the oil workers in the public sectors. They were also ready for any eventuality if nothing concrete comes from the government an official in the Petroleum and Natural Gas for Senior Staff Associated of Nigeria said;

The planned strick had been called off, to give way for the Federal Government to address the issues on ground, raised by the oil workers.

Comrade Lumumba Okugbawan ,a Federal Government, Secretary General of PENGASSAN in a statement to oil workers, he revealed that the union are currently in talks with officials of the government and would provide updates after talks are concluded.

Comrade Lumumba Okugbawan “Refer to our letter dated June 17,2020 on the above subject, which a copy was sent to you. The matter has been apprehended and discussions on going with the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources. The Secretariat will get back to you as events unfold.”
