Nine People Dead After Container Fell On Fully-Loaded Commercial Bus In Lagos

Nine people have been confirmed dead in the accident that happened at the Ojuelegba axis of Lagos State on January 29.

A truck conveying a 20ft container landed on top of a commercial bus. The bus was said to be picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.

In a statement released,  Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA  said after suspending the container load with the aid of the agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment, a single adult woman was extricated alive and taken to the trauma center.

He stated that the fatalities from the unfortunate incident include four adult males, three adult females, one boy child, and one girl child.

He added that the Agency’s Ambulance, LASG FIRE, FED FIRE, LASTMA, and Nigeria Police have been working on this situation which is now concluded.

 

“Further investigation by the Nigeria Police on the removal of the bridge barriers aimed at preventing trucks from ascending,” he said.
