On Thursday, January 26, 2023, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi paid a visit to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in his country home of Port Harcourt.
The reason for the visit is yet unknown, and this is one of a series of visits by political bigwigs across party lines to the Rivers State governor.
Wike has been in the eye of the storm since the Peoples Democratic Party presidential primaries last year, which produced Atiku Abubakar, due to his disagreement with PDP national leadership.
He and the other five governors, known as the G-5, have refused to back Atiku because they want the PDP national chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, to resign so that the position can go to the south, as the party’s presidential candidate emerged from the north.
The G-5 Governors apparently withdrew their support for Atiku because he refused to accept their demand that Ayu resign.
