The Nigerian Police, in affiliation with the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have apprehended a 21-year-old undergraduate, Victor Olusegun, for being in possession of various weapons and ammunition.
Olusegun, who is reportedly a final year student at the University of Abuja, was said to have six 9mm pellets, 13 6mm pellets, 10 cartridges and four locally made pistols within his possession.
He was also said to have in his possession, a variety of charms and drugs.
The suspect, who was arrested by detectives after his final examinations, claimed the weapons were only ever put to use during celebrations and festivals.
He confessed that he was a member of the Aye Cult and was initiated last September at a private party in Gwagwalada with the help of one Bright Kalu who assured him that joining the cult would solve his financial problems.
Kalu was, however, apprehended in March and his confessions to the police led to the capture of other cult members, including Olusegun.
He insisted he had never used the weapons to commit any crime, adding that Kalu trained him in weapons handling.
