The EFCC Identifies A Number Of Bank Frauds, Including Zenith, UBA, And Access, And Advises Customers To Safeguard Their Accounts.

The public has received another warning from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which urges prudence and vigilance in protecting both personal and company bank accounts.

The public statement is part of the EFCC’s effort to stop the growing number of bank fraud cases in Nigeria. In a recent #EFCCCONNECT program (program 145), the commission highlighted a number of bank fraud types that are being reported more frequently:

Accounting fraud is the deception of a bank’s financial status through money laundering or manipulation. Check forgery and alteration: In order to obtain unauthorized access to funds, fraudsters change or fake checks. False information is submitted on fraudulent loan applications by people trying to get loans for which they are not qualified. Identity theft/impersonation: Hackers obtain private data in order to take advantage of bank accounts Money laundering is the practice of using several techniques to hide the source of funds that have been obtained unlawfully.

Warnings from Prominent Banks Major banks including Zenith Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Access Bank have advised their clients to be alert and proactive in response to these threats: The UBA To guarantee rapid action, the bank encouraged clients to report any suspicious behavior as soon as possible by emailing or contacting designated emergency lines.

Bank of Access Access Bank cautioned consumers against disclosing personal information over the phone in response to the increased threat of vishing, or voice phishing.

Customers were advised by the bank to confirm the legitimacy of callers and to never divulge private information, such as passwords or card numbers.

The message says: “Avoid unwanted phone calls; always check the identity of the caller by going to the company’s official website and getting in touch with them directly. Because scammers can get your personal information from places like social media, don’t assume a caller is legitimate just because they have it. No one will ever ask for your 16-digit card number, password, PIN, CVV, BVN, or OTP, therefore never provide them to anyone. You can report any questionable calls right away by emailing [email protected] or by phoning 07003000000.

In a similar vein, Zenith Bank advised its clients to exercise cautious and to report any suspected fraud right away.
