The First Lady Urges A Renewed Commitment To Combating Malaria.

As Nigeria observes World Malaria Day 2025 alongside the rest of the world, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has urged a renewed dedication to combating the fatal disease, which continues to be one of the country’s most urgent health concerns.

Tinubu called for a swift and decisive response from government agencies, the commercial sector, non-governmental organizations, medical experts, and community leaders in a statement released on Friday.

“With urgency and determination, I implore all government agencies, commercial sector partners, non-governmental organizations, medical professionals, and community leaders to recommit to the fight against malaria. We are the ones that bring malaria to an end, via our words, decisions, and deeds,” she said.

The message made by the First Lady is in line with the subject of World Malaria Day in 2025, which is “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”

She pointed out that the theme is a call to action and a message of hope, imploring Nigerians to increase donations to initiatives that can save lives, step up awareness efforts, and rekindle the will to end the illness.

In order to stop the spread of malaria, Tinubu emphasized that environmental responsibility is just as important as medical measures.

“As mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, we should also make sure that our surroundings and environment are clean,” she stated.

Nigeria has the highest rate of malaria worldwide, the First Lady pointed out, highlighting the scope of the problem and characterizing it as a national emergency as well as a public health concern.

“We need to keep up our hard work to turn this trend around,” she stated. The Tinubu administration has reaffirmed its commitment to improving public health outcomes since taking office, with a particular focus on diseases like malaria that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, such as children and pregnant women. Every year on April 25, the world observes World Malaria Day to raise awareness of the disease and spur action toward its control and eventual elimination. Malaria continues to claim hundreds of thousands of lives throughout Africa each year, with Nigeria accounting for a significant percentage of global cases and deaths.
