Dr. Maruf Alausa, the Minister of Education, declared Thursday that the long-standing problem of Higher National Diploma graduates being mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps had been resolved.
The ministry said in a statement that the decision was made after consulting with the NYSC Director-General.
According to the ministry, only full-time HND graduates are qualified and can now move forward with their mobilization.
“For full-time HND graduates who were previously not eligible to enroll in the NYSC program, this change represents a major advancement. It emphasizes the Federal Ministry of Education’s dedication to inclusivity, equity, and justice in the country’s educational system. Those who worked part-time at HND, however, are completely ineligible for mobilization.
“The National Board for Technical Education has been instructed to speed the collection of data for eligible HND graduates in order to support a smooth mobilization process. Accordingly, all polytechnic rectors have received a circular telling them to input the required graduate data onto the recently established HND entrance portal.
Only those who completed a full-time HND program would be mobilized, according to Alausa, who also emphasized that individuals who completed an HND program part-time are still ineligible.
He further revealed that the recently developed platform will solve previous issues with admission records, guarantee accurate documentation of full-time HND graduates, and act as the official database for NYSC mobilization.
All qualified full-time HND graduates were urged by the minister to seize this chance and move forward with their mobilization right away.
Through the NYSC program, he reiterated the government’s dedication to provide all eligible Nigerian graduates with equal opportunities and guaranteeing their contributions to the country’s growth.
