The United States Is Accused Of Political Harassment And Witch-Hunting The President Of Nigeria, According To Tinubu’s FBI Files.

The Concerned Nigerian Citizens for Justice and Sovereignty, an organization, has urged international organizations, especially the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to refrain from conducting witch hunts against President Bola Tinubu.

The call was made during a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday by the group headed by Kailani Muhammad, the director-general of the Confederation of All Progressives Congress Support Groups.

“Under the pretext of revived U.S. ‘investigation reports,’ we, the Concerned Nigerian Citizens for Justice and Sovereignty, vehemently oppose the ongoing political harassment directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The FBI and its allies are among the international organizations that have hurried to make decades-old records public, which betrays a politically motivated witch hunt.

“President Tinubu has been the target of similar allegations before, but no court has found him guilty of any wrongdoing,” Mr. Muhammad stated.

He noted that there are substantial concerns over foreign meddling and the use of legal institutions as a weapon to meddle in Nigerian domestic politics given the timing of the “planned media frenzy fueled by politically biased actors.”

“The 2023 presidential election was free, fair, and definitive,” he continued. Through voting, Nigerians expressed their opinions.

The persistent effort to criminalize Mr. Tinubu using rehashed accusations from a long time ago is wrong, Mr. Muhammad said.

The ongoing attacks on the Nigerian president, he warned, can be seen as a disrespect to the nation’s democracy and citizens’ dignity.

In April of last year, a U.S. federal judge granted the CIA permission to disregard requests for data on Mr. Tinubu, stating that there was no proof the agency had any intelligence on the Nigerian leader.

In a similar vein, Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C., stated that although the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration had already made any documents in their possession public, they could still search their archives to see if there was anything else that would be of public interest.

After years of battle for Mr. Tinubu’s data, the FBI and other U.S. agencies released their holdings in a series of document dumps between 2023 and 2024, leading to the conclusion that should relieve the Nigerian leader.Files from the FBI’s and its sister agencies’ archives have previously been made public, demonstrating that Mr. Tinubu was looked into for possible connections to the drug trade in the 1990s. The investigation resulted in Mr. Tinubu forfeiting $460,000 in 1993, a scandal that dominated Nigeria’s 2023 presidential race.
