Trump Suggests Changing The Iranian Regime As Israel Claims That Strikes Were Carried Out In The “Heart Of Tehran.”

What we’re discussing
• Iran promises a reaction: Iranian parliamentarians and military leaders pledged that the United States would be held accountable for its attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities. In the meantime, in a social media tweet on Sunday, US President Donald Trump hinted at the prospect of regime change in Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, has not yet responded.

• Damage assessment: According to the UN’s nuclear inspector, the US attack probably caused “very significant damage” to the underground portions of Iran’s Fordow nuclear plant on Monday.

• The eleventh day of the Iran-Israel crisis has seen both nations continue exchanging strikes. While multiple waves of Iranian missile attacks were reported in Israel, Israel’s defense minister claimed that it launched an attack at “the heart of Tehran,” including Iran’s infamous Evin jail.

President Donald Trump’s assertion that Iran’s nuclear sites were “completely and totally obliterated” was restated by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

As the president stated in his speech to the country on Saturday night, “we are confident, yes, that Iran’s nuclear sites were completely and totally obliterated, and we have a high degree of confidence that where those strikes took place is where Iran’s enriched uranium was stored,” she stated on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

According to Leavitt, the president would not have issued the strike order if he had not been confident in the outcome.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said he could not confirm the location of Iran’s near-weapons-grade nuclear material stockpile and called for inspectors to be permitted to return safely to the country “to assess the situation.” Grossi stated in Sunday interview with CNN that Iran possesses approximately 400 kilograms (880 lbs) of 60% enriched uranium, which is not far from the 90% enrichment needed to create nuclear weapon.

Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated yesterday that it was “way too early” to comment on whether Iran still possesses some nuclear capability because the impact of the strikes is still being assessed.
