We Need To Regulate Fertility, Says FG

The federal government has said that there is a need to regulate the birth rate in the country to achieve sustainable development.

According to the reports, Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said this in Abuja on Thursday, July 2, at the celebration of World Population Day, organized by the National Population Commission (NPC).

Ehanire who was represented by Director, of Family Health, Salma Ibrahim Anas, said it would be difficult for Nigeria to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals with the current 5.3 fertility average in the country.

“We must regulate fertility, without fertility regulation, we’re going nowhere. This is actually the key to unlocking the success of sustainable development in Nigeria and the Ministry of Health has positioned itself to fulfill this purpose,” he said.
