World War Anniversaries Will Now Be Called “Victory Day” By Trump.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to change the nation’s name once again by renaming May 8 and November 11 as “Victory Day.”

He posted on his Truth Social platform, “I am hereby renaming May 8th as World War II Victory Day and November 11th as World War I Victory Day.”

The European Union celebrates Victory Day on May 8 and in the former Soviet Union on May 9, which commemorates the anniversary of Germany’s unconditional surrender being formally accepted.

After Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed with atomic weapons, Japan surrendered in early September 1945, ending the war in Asia.

In contrast to Europe, May 8 is not a public holiday or as frequently observed in the US, however some people do mark the date.

Trump’s statement stated, “Although many of our friends and allies are commemorating May 8th as Victory Day, we accomplished more than any other nation, by far, in achieving a successful outcome on World War II.”

Former US President Woodrow Wilson first dubbed November 11 “Armistice Day” to commemorate the anniversary of the 1918 armistice that put an end to World War I’s fighting.

Now known as “Veterans Day,” it is a public holiday observed in the US to honor Americans who have served in the armed services.

“We won both wars, and no one was as strong, courageous, or brilliant militarily as we were, but we never celebrate anything — That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore who know how to do that!” Then Trump went on. “We will once more begin to celebrate our successes!”

Russia was the largest of 15 republics that made up the Soviet Union, which sided with the United States and Britain against Nazi Germany during World War II.

Over 20 million people were killed in the USSR, which suffered the most losses throughout the conflict.

The White House has not yet formally released an executive order or proclamation listing the holiday name changes.

In his second term, Trump has made repeated attempts to rename aspects of American public life, whether it be a physical feature, such as renaming the “Gulf of Mexico” as the “Gulf of America,” or a national holiday, such as renaming “Indigenous Peoples’ Day” back to “Columbus Day.”
