Over the years, the type of image portray as that of Africa, has been nothing but backwardness, lack, uneducated, developing, insecurities and more. Africa was said to have come from the “dark ages”, “Black”, or “Backwardness” . This was the term invented by the European power, who were looking for reasons to dominate and rule the continent.
But a British parliamentarian, Lord Macaulay Feb 2,1835 said to the British Parliament, “I have travelled across the length and breadth of Africa and I have not seen one person who was a beggar, who is a thief; such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Africans think that all that is foreign and English is good, and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture, and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.
The time for building Africa is here, it is high time we show the right images to the world. And this can be done only by Africans. We will need to work hard to change the African(Africa) narrative, and we must do that as one body(together). We must stop the false image placed on us by people who wanted to control Africa and her resources.
It is a story as old as time itself’ first you say the commodity(Africa) wouldn’t work well(Before Africa was colonised, the European powers said Africans were “bush” people, backward, illiterate, barbaric and all sorts of negative names and image was portrayed), then you try to convince the sellers to sell cheap( by convincing our leaders, chiefs and heads of various communities that they were not fit to rule the territory), then you buy( and they moved into Africa, slowly gaining control through brutal forces or unethical negotiation. But we all know how rich Africa is, her rich resources was what prompted them to colonise the territory under false pretences.
