The Kano state police say it has handed over about N9.9 million wrongly transferred to a POS operator to the rightful owner in the Dawanau Grain International market in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
The command revealed this in a statement released by the command’s public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in Kano on Thursday, March 14. He said a POS operator reported to the police that he realized that one of his customers, who is yet to be identified, wrongly transferred N10 million instead of N10,000.
Kiyawa explained that on receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, directed a discreet investigation to identify the rightful owner and return the money to him.
He said that it took the Police investigation team three months before identifying the original owner of the huge amount.
He said, “On March 14, the investigation was concluded as a sequel to the uncovering of the identity of the rightful owner, who happened to be a trader at the famous Dawanau Grains Market located in Dawakin Tofa. The owner (name withheld) commended the POS operator and the police for their efforts, and out of joy, he presented a cash gift of N500,000 to the POS operator. He also appreciated the commissioner for the show of honesty and integrity by the police, saying this was a demonstration of exemplary leadership.“

A tragedy struck in the Gbagada area of Lagos State after a woman was stabbed to death by her house help, in her apartment on 29, Kiniun-Ifa Street, Sawmill.
It was gathered that it is not clear when the fleeing house help, identified simply as Peter, allegedly committed the murder, but the lifeless body of the woman was discovered by her son, who came to visit her on March 9, 2024.
A resident in the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “The woman’s son, upon arriving at the compound, went straight to his mother’s apartment only to find her lifeless body on the staircase, with blood all over. A long piece of wood suspected to be the murder weapon was also found. By then, the body has started swelling, suggesting that the woman might have been killed days before.”
The fleeing household is said to have resumed work a week before the tragedy occurred. It was further gathered that a relative of the agent who brought the fleeing household had been arrested, as the unidentified agent was nowhere to be found.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the house help had also been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCIID, Panti, for investigation.

The deceased, who studied architecture at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, was found dangling in his room on Monday evening, March 11, in his village, Umuohii, Obaoma community, Ezinihitte-Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident happened shortly after he participated in the village’s manual labour involving his peers.
He was said to be in good spirits during the village clean-up exercise and showed no signs of depression.
His death has shocked villagers who are trying to understand his motives, as he left no suicide note.
He was buried on Tuesday, March 12, after the required cultural rituals to appease the land were carried out.
