Popular Broadway actor, Nick Cordero, had his right leg amputated following complications from Coronavirus, his wife has confirmed.
Since the end of March, the 41-year-old has been in hospital in Los Angeles, where he was initially diagnosed with pneumonia before testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
He later had complications after a drop in blood pressure and had a blood clot in his right leg which needed to be amputated for him to survive. He has since been placed on life support and has remained unconscious ever since.
His wife Amanda Kloots has been posting regular health updates on social media about the condition of the star who has been on a ventilator at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. In a recent post, she wrote;
“I received difficult news, Saturday, was day 18 of my husband being sedated in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
“While hospitalized, he started having clotting issues on his right leg, and could not get blood down to his toes. The blood thinners he got to fix the clotting issues were affecting his blood pressure and causing internal bleeding in his intestines.
“We took him off blood thinners but that again was going to cause some clotting in the right leg, so the right leg will be amputated today
She added that he made it through surgery and hopes to recover soon.
“He made it through the surgery which is really big, because obviously his body’s pretty weak.
“They’re taking him back to the room to recover and rest, so hopefully he’ll just kind of relax and rest.”
The Canadian actor is best known for his work in Broadway productions of Waitress and Bullets Over Broadway.
