Amid Controversy, CAF Removes Nigeria And Libya Off The AFCON Qualifying List

The second leg of the current 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifying match between the Mediterranean Knights of Libya and the Super Eagles of Nigeria has been delisted by the Confederation of African Football.

Following Friday’s first leg at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the match was originally set to begin in Libya at 8 p.m.

In the final minute of the match, the Super Eagles defeated the Mediterranean Knights by a single goal.

After the Super Eagles players and officials described their more than 14-hour nightmare at the Libyan airport that forced them to return home, the return leg has been met with controversy.

Following the Libya Football Federation’s accusations of sabotage and threat of legal action against Nigeria, CAF announced that it had opened an investigation into the matter.

The African football organization also changed the games scheduled for Tuesday, excluding the match between Nigeria and Libya from their X handle.
