APC Presidential Candidate Is Expected To Come From The South, El-Rufai Says

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that theĀ All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2023 election is expected to come from the southern region of the country.

It was gathered that Kaduna state Governor who revealed that the southern caucus of the ruling party will decide which part of the area the candidate will come from, also disclosed in an interview with the journalists that the national chairmanship position in the ruling party will be taken by the Northern region.

Ā ā€œOur expectation is that our presidential candidate will come from somewhere in the south.

ā€œIt is up to the southern caucus of the APC to now propose to us an acceptable candidate,” El-Rufai said.

According to the reports, the Governor who ruled outĀ contesting for any post in the forthcoming general conventionĀ said he would change his mindĀ if President Muhammadu Buhari tells him to go for the presidential post.

ā€œThat would be a different conversation. Iā€™ll explain to him why I donā€™t think itā€™s a good idea but of course, if he insists, I will. But Iā€™m tired.

ā€œIā€™m physically tired because I do take my work seriously. For the last eight years, Iā€™ve worked myself flat out and Iā€™m not young anymore.

ā€œIā€™ll be 63 next year. So I prefer to look at other options to contribute to the development of my country but of course, I didnā€™t want to run for Governor but the President insisted so if he insists that I do something I have so much regard for him and his judgment that Iā€™ll do it even reluctantly,ā€ he added.
