The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that theĀ All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2023 election is expected to come from the southern region of the country.
It was gathered that Kaduna state Governor who revealed that the southern caucus of the ruling party will decide which part of the area the candidate will come from, also disclosed in an interview with the journalists that the national chairmanship position in the ruling party will be taken by the Northern region.
Ā āOur expectation is that our presidential candidate will come from somewhere in the south.
āIt is up to the southern caucus of the APC to now propose to us an acceptable candidate,” El-Rufai said.
According to the reports, the Governor who ruled outĀ contesting for any post in the forthcoming general conventionĀ said he would change his mindĀ if President Muhammadu Buhari tells him to go for the presidential post.
āThat would be a different conversation. Iāll explain to him why I donāt think itās a good idea but of course, if he insists, I will. But Iām tired.
āIām physically tired because I do take my work seriously. For the last eight years, Iāve worked myself flat out and Iām not young anymore.
āIāll be 63 next year. So I prefer to look at other options to contribute to the development of my country but of course, I didnāt want to run for Governor but the President insisted so if he insists that I do something I have so much regard for him and his judgment that Iāll do it even reluctantly,ā he added.
