Asari Dokubo, a former rebel leader in the Niger Delta, has said that President Tinubu has betrayed and ignored the people of the Delta.
Asari made the claim in a video that went popular on social media. He said Tinubu had betrayed him after working hard to help him become president of Nigeria in 2023.
Dokubo said that he spent his own money trying to get people to vote for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential race but was turned away.
But he promised to work with the Northern area to get rid of Tinubu before the general elections in 2027.
Dokubo remembered telling Nigerians that they would hold him responsible if Tinubu failed as president.
He said, “I’m sorry to our fathers for making an alliance with the North; they did the right thing, and now that we’re young men, we will do the same.”
“I will work with the North and make an alliance with them starting today.” I gave President Tinubu all of my money and empty bank account to campaign for him, but he turned it back on me. I no longer know the same Tinubu that I did before. We will tell everyone that only people from the North can work with the Ijaw.
“The Yoruba people are traitors, so we can’t work with them.” It cost us our lives to vote and do everything, and this is what we get?”
Remembers that in 2023, Dokubo said he has been friends with Tinubu for a long time and is not interested in a government job.
“I’m not a normal politician; I’m just Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s friend,” he said. I’m not looking for an interview, but those who are made sacrifices to get one are counting on me to make sure they weren’t for nothing.
When former presidential candidate Tein Jack-Rich visited, the former rebel leader talked about how he has known Tinubu since the early 1990s and how much he trusts the President’s abilities, leadership skills, and desire for fairness and justice.
“Those close to me can be sure that I am a true supporter of the President because I will not do anything that will hurt him,” he had said.
