Assembly Resolutions Regarding Supreme Court Judgment Still Awaiting Us—Rivers Government

During its meeting on Monday, the assembly chaired by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule gave Governor Siminalayi Fubara a 48-hour deadline to submit the State’s 2025 budget.

The State Government clarified in a letter to the Speaker of the House, signed by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo, that as of the end of business on March 4, the document had not been received by the office of the Governor, the deputy Governor, or the Accountant-General.

Nevertheless, no specific person was mentioned in the letter as the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Danagogo cited Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent state broadcast from March 2, in which he reaffirmed his dedication to upholding the rule of law.

He claimed that regardless of one’s personal views on the Supreme Court’s decision, the governor had promised the residents of Rivers State that his government would follow and carry out the court’s rulings in the state’s best interests.

The administration also disclosed that its legal team is still awaiting a certified true copy of the ruling, but promised the public that the governor would take prompt action upon receiving it.

The letter said, “I am writing to inform you about a letter that was discovered on social media on March 3, 2025, regarding the aforementioned subject matter.

We have not yet received the aforementioned letter as of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, when work ended. The letter has not been received by the state’s accountant general’s office, the governor’s office, or the deputy governor’s office.

In a broadcast on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Rivers State Governor His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara made it clear that, regardless of his personal views on the rulings of the Supreme Court, he will, as a law-abiding Nigerian, obey and carry out their decisions in line with the rule of law and the interests of the state’s citizens.
