At Ethiopia’s 2017 New Year Ceremony, Davido Does A Performance.

At Ethiopia enters 2017, well-renowned Afrobeat musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, recently gave a performance at the celebration of the New Year.

Thousands of Ethiopians turned out to celebrate their national new year in Addis Ababa, the country’s capital, as shown in a video that went viral on social media on Wednesday.

Ethiopia uses its own calendar system, called the Ethiopian calendar or Ge’ez calendar, which accounts for the country’s seven-year calendar lag behind the rest of the globe, much to the astonishment of many admirers on social media.

It differs slightly from the Gregorian calendar that is used by the majority of people worldwide in that it is based on the calendar of the ancient Egyptians.

The Ethiopian calendar (Ge’ez calendar), which is seven to eight years behind the Gregorian calendar due to different calculations for the date of the annunciation of Jesus’ birth, celebrates Ethiopia’s new year on either September 11th or September 12th.

Among other things, the festival includes church services and festive and traditional dinners.
