Armed bandits with sophisticated weapons, on Monday night, stormed the home of an officer attached to the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), ASP Aliyu Umar, at Kofar Kona area of Zaria Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
It was gathered that the bandits, in large numbers stormed the area and headed straight for the home of the police officer, shooting sporadically to disperse residents.
Umar, who confirmed the attack, said his house seemed to be the main target stating that one Abubakar Aliyu was reportedly killed while an elderly person identified as Abubakar was shot in the chest and had been rushed to hospital for medical attention.
He, however, disclosed that a joint patrol team led by the Chief Superintendent of Police Kasim Abdullahi Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Zaria City which comprises Police from Area Command Zaria, FIB-IRT, Danmagaji and Military personnel foiled their mission.
Aliyu said, “the gunmen on sighting the team of security at the area, quickly withdrew and attacked a Fulani settlement at Filin Idin Barebare, Zaria, killing one Abubakar Mohammed ‘M’ 46 years while Abubakar Aliyu ‘M’ 56 years was shot and is receiving treatment.
The gunmen also rustled unspecified numbers of cattle from the Fulani’s settlement.
