Beijing Opposes Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination for Children

The Beijing Municipal Commission of Education is opposed to making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for children as a condition of admission to schools and kindergartens.

The committee stated in a statement that “we oppose mandatory COVID-19 vaccination, as well as vaccination being a condition for children’s admission to education in schools and kindergartens.”

It was gathered that the committee also advocated against educational institutions making discretionary decisions about unvaccinated children being denied access to schools and kindergartens or requiring a PCR test every 48 hours in order to attend educational establishments.

China approved the administration of Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines for emergency use in children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 in June 2021.

Beijing launched COVID-19 vaccination for children aged three to eleven years old in October.
