The officers overseeing the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, have been suspended by the Federal Government due to an audio leak that purportedly showed cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, receiving an apartment outside the custodial centre despite being found guilty of a crime and given a six-month jail sentence. In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, September 26, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, or CDCFIB, Ja’afaru Ahmed, revealed this.
As to Ahmed’s statement, the suspension of the officers is intended to facilitate more inquiry into the different accusations, guaranteeing that the final findings will be disclosed to the public.
“The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended the following Senior Officers of the Service immediately in response to the widely shared viral video on social media that purportedly shows violations by Nigerian Correctional Service officers against Mr. Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.” Sikiru Adekunle is a Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) who is in charge of the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-kiri, Lagos State, and Michael Anugwa is a DCC deputy controller who is in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-kiri.
Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, who is employed by the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, has been suspended by the Board for allegedly going with a convicted prisoner from the Custodial Centre to a place outside the premises. In a similar development, the Board has also suspended Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, a Senior Officer of the Service, for allegedly accepting money on behalf of an inmate while serving as the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) and In-Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje, Abuja.
