Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives, has been released from prison after serving five years for requesting and receiving a $500,000 bribe.
On January 26, 2024, the Supreme Court upheld Lawan’s conviction.
In 2012, while he was chairman of the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee looking into gasoline subsidy fraud, he was found guilty of asking Nigerian billionaire oil mogul Femi Otedola for a $3 million bribe.
More to come.
