Lagos State government has warned that it will not hesitate to wield the big stick against any transport union fomenting trouble in the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, handed down the warning at a truce meeting between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), which held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Transportation, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
Members of both unions clashed last week around Mile 2 in the Amuwo-Odofin council over issues relating to sale of tickets for trucks entering the Apapa ports.
Fayinka who expressed regrets at the violence in which three persons died last Monday, described the development as unfortunate and avoidable, saying the state government will not tolerate needless killings and lawlessness in the state.
He reiterated that as part of efforts to return peace to the area, the government has suspended the sale of tickets to truckers in the axis.
