Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State has suspended Hon. Victor Ihunwo, chairman of Port Harcourt local Government Area over illegal tax collection.
He also urged traders at the Ogbum- nu- Abali Fruit Garden Market to avoid having any dealing with any one who claims to be acting on behalf of Port Harcourt LG.
However, on Thursday Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, Commissioner for information and communications said that legal action has been set in place against defaulting banks who gives loan to some local government councils without the state governments approval.
He also added that the Heads of Personnel Management, Heads of Local Government Administration, and Treasurers of Abua and Degema Local Government Areas are also suspended with immediate effect for having official transactions with the suspended local government chairmen.
He said:
“The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission is hereby directed to post officers of the same designations to replace the suspended officers immediately,”
