President Bola Tinubu said that General Taoreed Lagbaja, who was in charge of Nigeria’s army, died after a “period of illness.” He was 56 years old.
He passed away in Lagos on Tuesday night. The specifics of his illness were not talked about.
A presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said on X that President Tinubu sent his “heartfelt condolences” to Gen Lagbaja’s family.
“President Tinubu wishes Lt General Lagbaja eternal peace and honors his significant contributions to the nation,” it said.
It was said that his death was a big loss for the Nigerian Armed Forces because he “played pivotal roles in numerous internal security operations.”
Gen. Lagbaja’s wife Mariya and their two children will miss him.
