Crash On Third Mainland Bridge Results In One Death And Eight Injuries

In a head-on collision between two buses on Monday near the Ilaje region of Lagos State, on the Third Mainland Bridge, no fewer than eight people were hurt and one was confirmed deceased.

The two Mazda commercial buses, bearing the license plates LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH, “recklessly engaged in a high-speed chase from Adeniji Adele,” according to a statement from Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, caused the crash.

As a reminder of the “catastrophic consequences of irresponsible driving practices,” the statement stated that the LASTMA authorities’ intervention “facilitated the rapid rescue of eight passengers, all of whom suffered severe fractures.”

“The injured were sent straight to Gbagada General Hospital by Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) for emergency medical attention.

“Bariga and Alonge Police Station police units played a crucial role in providing vital security support during the rescue operation, maintaining law and order and accelerating efforts to return to normalcy.”

The statement said, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) implores all motorists to strictly observe speed regulations and exercise caution while driving. It also reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring road safety.”

Additionally, the organization expressed sympathy to the lost family and said it “wishes the injured a swift and full recovery.”

A Honda CRV (AKD 743 HV), which was involved in a collision on Monday, overturned on the bridge close to the University of Lagos’ shoreline, also inbound Iyana-Oworonsoki. This is a related development.

There were no casualties from the collision, which was caused by overspeeding. Personnel from LASTMA moved quickly to clean the debris, preventing any additional impediment to the free passage of traffic on the bridge,” the statement continued.
