CSG Tells Tinubu To Declare A State Of Emergency On The Roads In The South

Coalition of Southern Groups (CSG) has asked President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on all federal roads in the southern part of Nigeria right away. They say this is necessary because infrastructure is in terrible shape and people in the South South, South East, and South West regions are going through unimaginable hardships.

The coalition says that the bad condition of these roads has made it very hard for people in the southern parts of Nigeria to get to Abuja, which is the country’s capital, or even to other states in the area.

At a meeting with the media in Abuja, the CSG stressed how important these roads are to Nigeria’s economy, especially since the southern part of the country produces oil, which is what keeps the economy going. The coalition did say, though, that the roads have been in a terrible state for decades, even though the area is very important to the economy. They say that this lack of care has caused big economic and social problems for the people, like making it hard for farmers to get their goods to markets.

The CSG made it clear that the roads are in such bad shape that they are a “nightmare” for drivers, especially those going from the south of the country to Abuja. The coalition wanted a new rule to be made that would force all elected and appointed public officials to use the southern roads for all of their local trips instead of flying. The coalition thinks that these officials will better understand how important it is to fix the road infrastructure problem if they see how bad the roads are for regular people.

Chairman of the CSG, Prof. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, read the speech at the event. He asked the federal government to fix and improve the roads right away. Along with the coalition’s secretary, Comrade Bello Osaretin, he stressed that the ministries and agencies responsible for fixing these important roads in the south should make it a top priority. These roads have been mostly ignored, even though they are very important for trade, mobility, and national unity.

The CSG not only asked for emergency repairs, but also for tighter monitoring of both building and maintaining roads. They suggested that the federal government improve the skills of the Federal Controllers of Works in each state to make sure that roads are supervised and managed well. In addition, the group said it wanted to talk with the President and northern leaders about how to fix these infrastructure problems and help the country grow.

Calls for a state of emergency on southern roads show that people in the south of Nigeria are getting more and more angry because they feel like the central government doesn’t care about them. The fact that the CSG wants both immediate repairs and big changes to the way roads are maintained shows how important infrastructure is for supporting fair growth and making people’s lives better in Nigeria.
