Ebute Metta Update: Mother, Son Confirmed Dead In Collapsed Building

A mother and her son have been confirmed dead after a three-story building collapsed in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

This was confirmed in a situation report made available to journalists on Monday, May 2 by The Lagos State Emergency Management.

We reported earlier that several individuals were trapped after a building collapsed around 11pm on Sunday evening.

The affected building was located at 24 Ibadan Street (East) off Bonny Way Ebute Metta comprised rooms and parlour.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu speaking on the incident said the building collapsed around 10:56pm on Sunday evening.

He said: “Further information gathered revealed that the incident occurred at about 10.56pm with an as-yet-undetermined number of people trapped. Search and rescue are ongoing.

“As of 02:10am 22 males, and one female were rescued alive. One male and female recovered dead.”

The National Emergency Management Agency has also confirmed the recovery of two dead bodies and the rescue of 23 persons.
