With the arrest of two political thugs, Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, a PDP member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo, the Nigeria Police Force has made a major breakthrough in its attempts to stop electoral violence in the state.
Following a tip that some people had been armed with the intention of causing chaos and unrest during the election on Saturday, police officers moved quickly to apprehend Obanor, the head of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 at approximately 9 p.m., and Audu Tajudeen at Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election. Three locally made, cut-to-size pistols were found on Obanor during a search of the baggage they were carrying, while Tajudeen had one locally made gun seized.
The Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to upholding law and order and guaranteeing a peaceful electoral process is demonstrated by these arrests. Any kind of violence or unruliness during the Edo State election would not be tolerated by the police or other assisting security agencies.
The suspects are being held and will be subject to the full force of the law. The Police urge people to report any suspicious activity to the closest police station or by calling our designated hotlines, as they reaffirm the public of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
