Chief Bode George, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, has spoken out against the arraignment of the 76 protesters arrested during the last #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in the country. Many of them were children, which has been widely criticized.
An online video showed the teens, who were charged last Friday by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja with 10 counts, including treason, inciting mutiny by telling the military to remove President Bola Tinubu, and other related charges, looking very hungry.
Remember As the defendants were brought to court, four of them—the eighth, 66th, 69th, and 49th offenders—fell while being led to the dock. As they lay on the floor in pain, lawyers and prison guards helped them leave the chamber.
George said it was “absolutely despicable,” “disgraceful,” and “shameful” that the children were being held and arraigned in court.
