Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has talked about how important the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program is. She says that since its start in 1973, it has been a key part of promoting national unity and growth. She stressed at the NYSC pre-mobilization training in Abuja that the program was made to bring young Nigerians from different backgrounds together and help them understand each other, bridging racial and regional gaps.
Mahmoud, who was the Chief Host of the event, talked about how important it was that the workshop’s theme was “Strengthening the NYSC Mobilization Process for Effective Service Delivery.” She said that this theme was in line with the country’s overall plan for growth and the way it is changing right now. The Minister said that the NYSC’s job in shaping young Nigerians wasn’t just to do service, but also to teach values like resilience, imagination, and innovation that are important in today’s world that changes so quickly.
Also, Mariya Mahmoud asked everyone involved in the NYSC program to be more involved in making the futures of Nigerian grads better. She stressed how important it was to give them both the skills and the attitude they needed to make a positive difference in the world. She said that because things are always changing in the world and in their own communities, people who want to join the corps should be ready to quickly learn how to deal with new problems by using their imagination and resourcefulness.
In addition, the Minister said that the workshop was a great way to share best practices, talk about new ideas, and work together on ways to make the recruitment process better. This would help the NYSC continue to meet its goals of promoting national unity and enhancing Nigeria’s economic growth. In light of this, Mahmoud praised the NYSC leadership for its ongoing efforts to improve the quality of service given by corps members. She praised the leaders for their ongoing work to train, teach, and prepare young Nigerians for the roles they will play in their communities. She stressed that investing in their growth is an investment in the future of the country.
Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, who is the Director General of the NYSC, also spoke at the event and emphasized how important the program is for bringing people together across Nigeria. He said that for decades, the NYSC has been an important part of building the country by making it easier for people from Nigeria’s many ethnic and cultural groups to get to know each other and work together. By sending corps members to different parts of the country, the program has made lasting connections that have helped to bring people together and build a stronger sense of national unity. Ahmed said that the NYSC has an effect all over Nigeria, from big towns to remote rural areas. He said that corps members are very important to the growth of infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other important areas. He also said that the NYSC is still making important contributions to the growth of the country and that its impact can be seen all over Nigeria.
Overall, both the Minister and the leaders of NYSC stressed how important it was to change the program to fit the country’s changing needs. This would keep it as a powerful tool for bringing the country together, improving society, and giving young Nigerians more power.
