In FETÖ, the battle over “the funeral can be kidnapped” has already started, as has the battle over money and management.
The terrorist group FETÖ, which was in charge of the failed 2016 Turkish coup attempt, was directed by Fetullah Gülen, who passed away on October 20, 2024. Within the organization, his death caused fear and power battles. Internal disputes over who will take Gülen’s place as leader and control of the organization’s projected large riches have been reported.
Internal Conflict over Power
“Long Cevdet,” whose real name is Cevdet Türkyolu, has taken over Gülen and the organization’s money. To keep control, he allegedly abducted Gülen from his property in Pennsylvania and relocated him to his son-in-law’s home. While some senior members of the organization would rather wait for European delegates to arrive, Türkyolu wants to bury Gülen as soon as possible.
Conflicts Regarding Funeral Plans
Funeral planning, including who will lead the prayers and attend the ceremony, is a matter of division within the group. There are worries that instead of holding a real funeral, Türkyolu may do a spoof. Most of the group aims to present Gülen as the well-known Turkish theologian Said Nursi.
Battle for Power and Money
The organization’s wealth has grown to be a major source of conflict. The head of FETÖ’s European activities, Abdullah Aymaz, is working to weaken Türkyolu’s financial clout and influence. If necessary, Aymaz has threatened to remove the European leg from the organization. Barbaros Kocakurt, Ali Ursavaş, and Mustafa Yesil are among the other members who have sided with Aymaz.
It is anticipated that the power battle inside FETÖ would worsen, possibly resulting in violent altercations and murders. The organization’s future is in jeopardy with Gülen’s passing, and the world observes as internal factions fight for dominance.
