According to Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is aggrieved since he was denied a position as a minister in the Tinubu administration.
El-Rufai, who has recently criticized Tinubu’s administration, asserted in an interview on Arise TV on Monday night that Tinubu, not the National Assembly, prevented him from being nominated as a minister after first requesting that he join the cabinet.
El-Rufai has stated, “The president didn’t want me in his cabinet, and the National Assembly had nothing to do with it.”
In an interview with Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Mr. Onanuga responded to his remarks by saying: “As a person, I think I will pity former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.” The fact that he was not appointed a minister hurts him.He needs to move on, in my opinion.
“You can’t keep acting like a kid and acting like your bread was stolen and all that, and then you’re whining about it?
“I think that Nasiru actually helped a lot in installing President Tinubu, and if he’s not there, it doesn’t mean that he must bring down the roof,” the president said in a recent birthday tribute to him, acknowledging that it’s normal for him to feel wounded and excluded.
Reiterating that the former governor was merely irritated because he was not a member of the federal government, Onanuga emphasized that the president has nothing against El-Rufai.
He added that although the government inherited many issues, “things are getting better” and that El-Rufai’s criticism of the Tinubu administration did not “reflect reality.”
