IGP Ban SARS From Routine Checks

The Inspector General Of police IGP M.A Adamu has banned the personnel of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad(FSAR) and otherĀ  Tactical Squads of the force which includes the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti- Cultism Squad and other tactical squads operating at the Federal Zonal Command level from carrying out routine checks, stop and search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, traffic check etc with immediate effect.

Ā  This is contained in a press realease signed by the Force Public Relations Officer DCP Frank Mba where the IGP warned tactical squads against the invasion of privacy of the citizens which is the Fundamental Human Right of the citizens of Nigeria according to the provision of the Nigerian constitution.

  According to the press release, no personnel of the force should embark on patrol in mufti, they  must always appear in their police uniform.

The IGP said that SARS is a critical component of the Police in fighting violent crimes nationwide, and condemned the acts of unprofessionalism, abuse of human rights and high-handedness by some personnel of the Squads.

The IGP has therefore authorized  the X-Squad and the Monitoring Unit to embark on immediate and massive nationwide monitoring of activities of Tactical Squads and other police officers on the road.

ā€œThey are to ensure prompt arrest, investigation and prosecution of all erring police officers who violate these directives and other extant regulations of the Force,ā€ IGP said

Ā  The IGP therefore reaffirm his commitment to the good citizens of Nigeria assuring that the Nigeria police is accountable and ensure that her activities is in line with safeguarding the Fundamental Human Right of the citizens of Nigeria.
