On Friday, the incident occurred at Irete area by Forte Oil Filling Station,where a petrol-laden tanker exploded and killed two persons on Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State.
According to reports, the driver of the tanker and a woman who was only on her way back from the market were killed by the explosion while others were injured, although the cause of the explosion is yet to be known.
An eyewitness said:
“The incident would have been more disastrous but for the prompt arrival of firefighters. It is unfortunate that we lost two persons in the fire – the driver and a woman. Others have been rushed to a hospital.”
However, Orlando Ikeokwu, the state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident saying that as at the time of the report he could confirm only one death.
