In Her National Day Speech, Lai Ching-te Declares That While China Has “No Right” To Represent Taiwan, She Is Nevertheless Open To Collaboration.

Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen stated on Tuesday that while Beijing has “no right” to speak for the people of Taiwan, the government of Taipei is prepared to collaborate with Beijing to address global issues like climate change.

Tsai is a highly despised Taiwanese politician in China, which has frequently called him a “separatist.” He was sworn in as Taiwan’s leader in May following his victory in an election earlier this year.

Tsai reaffirmed that the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China are “not subject to each other” in a speech on October 10, the Republic of China’s National Day.

Democracy and freedom are expanding and thriving on this nation. He stated, “The People’s Republic of China is not entitled to represent Taiwan.

Tsai added that Taiwan is still adamant about defending its independence, upholding harmony in the Taiwan Strait, and pursuing fair talks with China.

“I reaffirm that I will fight against any annexation or invasion of our sovereignty.”

Tsai, however, emphasized that his administration is prepared to cooperate with China.

“Together, we are prepared to tackle climate change, fight infectious diseases, and uphold regional stability for shared prosperity and the welfare of people across the strait.”

Tsai also urged China to meet the demands of the world community and utilize its influence to work with other nations to put an end to the war in Russia and Ukraine as well as other Middle Eastern problems.

As for China, the leader of Taiwan stated, “We hope that it will keep its commitment to the international community and work with Taiwan to promote regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.” Beijing has not yet answered Tsai’s statements.

But this week, Tsai was charged by China with “stirring up tensions.” In a regular drill that appeared to be aimed at “threatening” military force, China has started joint combat readiness patrols surrounding Taiwan, according to a statement released by Taiwan’s defense ministry on Wednesday, September 9.

Officials from Taiwan and the West have forewarned that China would increase military drills in retaliation for Tsai’s comments. China has been cautioned that “there is no legitimate reason” to exploit Tsai’s statement as justification to escalate military pressure on Taiwan by the United States, which is Taiwan’s strongest ally and global supporter.
