In light of the escalating tensions in the Middle East, France announced on Wednesday its decision to deploy additional military resources to the region, citing concerns over what it termed a “Iranian threat.”

The statement further indicated that a meeting of the United Nations Security Council is scheduled to convene later today.

This occurred in the wake of Tehran’s missile assault on Israel on Tuesday, which it characterized as a response to the assassination of leaders from Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps by Israel.

On Wednesday morning, Iran announced the conclusion of its missile assault on Israel, contingent upon the absence of further provocations. In response, both Israel and the United States pledged to take retaliatory measures against Tehran’s aggression, heightening concerns regarding the potential for an expanded conflict.

“In a decisive move to ensure Israel’s security, France has today deployed its military assets in the Middle East to address the Iranian threat,” stated the French presidency following an emergency security cabinet meeting convened to deliberate on the escalating situation in the region.

“The head of state further emphasized France’s insistence that Hezbollah halt its acts of terrorism directed at Israel and its citizens.”

No specifics were provided regarding the additional military assets dispatched to the region, and the defense ministry was not promptly reachable for commentary.

The Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, engaged in discussions with his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, to align their diplomatic initiatives, as stated by the ministry.

The French presidency announced its intention to convene a conference shortly aimed at supporting Lebanon and has instructed the foreign minister to visit the region to engage in diplomatic initiatives aimed at alleviating tensions.

“Mindful of the security and welfare of our fellow citizens in Lebanon and the broader Middle East, the head of state has called for the implementation of all essential measures to support them and, if required, to provide assistance,” the presidency stated.
